Energy efficient windows increasingly important

Posted on 23 October 2008

Energy efficient windows increasingly importantInstalling energy-efficient measures for windows, such as AquaMac seals or Echelon weather seals, will become increasingly important in coming years, it has been claimed.

Paul Kellett, technical expert at Anglian Home Improvements, said property energy ratings register the amount of heat lost through windows in the form of condensation or air leaks.

"That gives the consumer a really quick and easy way of comparing products against each other," he continued.

Melanie Russell, head of communications at the group, added: "If you are going to replace windows, make sure that you do it with a correctly energy-rated window."

She went on to say this can save money on fuel bills, which are constantly fluctuating at the moment.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Building Cost Information Service reported in June 2008 the average cost of installing double glazing had risen by 22 per cent in the past two years from between £850 and £1,580 to as much as £1,930.
