Conservatory building 'made easy by new rules'

Posted on 30 September 2008

Conservatory building UK homeowners will find it easier to carry out structural changes to their property, such as building conservatories or extensions, following the introduction of new planning permission rules, it has been claimed.

According to Sainsbury's Home Insurance, one-fifth of British homeowners currently plan to undertake major structural developments to their properties between May 2008 and May 2009.

New rules coming into force from October 1st will allow loft conversions and rear extensions to be added to homes without owners having to seek planning permission.

However, Neil Laird, manager of the group, said householders still need to check which developments they need planning permission for.

"These new regulations will make it a lot easier for homeowners in England who want to build rear extensions or carry out loft conversions," he added.

Earlier this month, finance advice website The Motley Fool stated homeowners should be encouraged to brighten up their property by adding new cabinet hardware and door furniture to kitchens.
