These locks are commonly referred to as 72mm locks due to the 72mm measurement between the handle and cylinder.

Functions similary to a standard Yale type surface nightlatch. It swings locked as it has a spring bolt and is opened by either key from outside or by a thumbturn from inside. There is a holdback snib on the forend.
It's the swing locked function that makes it so useful, for instance main entrance doors to blocks of flats or office buildings where the occupant opens the lock by key, passes through, then, providing the door is fitted with a closer, the door will swing locked behind them. This nightlatch is widely used with an electric strike as part of an access control system.
To the inside you would normally see the nightlatch operated by the thumbturn shown above or a half set of lever furniture that gives easier to operate egress. Order cylinders and thumbturn separately.

Escape Sashlock Kit - A Modern Solution
The inside handle will always open the door, both deadbolt and latch withdraw simultaneously giving a safe permanent escape route.
From outside if the deadbolt is locked / thrown by the key, from either side, the door is locked shut to outside users. If left unlocked the handle outside will open the door.
Combine these functions and you get an ideal lock for flat entrance doors, office doors and stores where permanent escape from inside and lockable access from outside are required.
Supplied as a complete kit of the lock, handles, cylinder and escutcheons. These components combined have been included in the fire and performance testing. BS EN179:1998/A1:2001
